Marching Band Camp

Hello Cougar Marching Band families!

 

Welcome!  We hope you are getting excited about the upcoming Band Camp at Bothell HS from August 16-20th, 9am - 9pm!  (Ends after 6pm performance on Friday the 20th)

 

There's a lot of very important information below, so please take a moment to help prepare your student for camp & the marching band season.

 

Food During Camp (everything at camp will be outside):

 

Lunches:

Students will need to bring their own sack lunch every day.   Also, as a reminder, it gets pretty hot out there on the field, so make sure they remember to bring a refillable water bottle! 

 

Dinners:

Your BHS Music Boosters will be coordinating dinners each day for the kids.  We haven't found restaurants to donate this year - it's been a tough year for our local businesses!  We have almost 150 kids in marching band this year who will be hungry after a long day of marching rehearsal, so we could really use your help getting them fed!  We will also need volunteers to help serve the food.  We will make every effort to stay covid-safe with the food with individual packaging when possible. Volunteers should bring masks, or they will be provided along with gloves for serving. 

 

We really appreciate your food donations!  Non-perishable food may be brought to camp by your student or brought later in the day before dinner.  Perishable items need to be brought to the courtyard outside the band room between 4:30-4:45pm, ready to be served to students by 5pm. 

 

If you are able to help with food, either providing or serving, please SignUp here - thank you!  Please feel free to sign up for more than 1 day.  We'll need a lot of food & helping hands to feed all these hungry teens!

 

Monday: parent donations - pasta night 

Tuesday: parent donations - taco bar

Wednesday:  Music Boosters will provide pizza as main

Thursday: parent donations - hot dogs

 

 

NOTE:  There will be some vegetarian options, but we cannot guarantee no cross-contamination.  If your student has food allergies or special dietary restrictions please have them bring a sack dinner as well as lunch. There will be no "off-campus" dinners.

 

On Friday the 20th there will be a performance for families to attend at 6pm.  There will NOT be the traditional potluck this year.  Families & students will all be able to go home after the performance to eat. 

 

Other important information for marching band (MB):

 

All band & percussion students are in marching band & expected to be at camp.  If they can not attend, they may not be able to march in the first football game, but they are still required to be in MB as part of the class. Practices after camp will be Mondays (see below).  Exceptions for sports participation, family vacations and other situations are normal and can be arranged by contacting Mr. Dean @ <pdean@nsd.org> BEFORE camp starts.

 

Everyone in any Band or Percussion needs:  their instrument, a “BHS Instrumental Music” t-shirt ($10), marching band shoes, ($40), and a flip folder for music, (please bring from home if your student already has one or these will be passed out at camp).  It will need a total of 15 pages (each with a front & back, so space for 30 pieces of music).  Required items can all be purchased from the Boosters during Marching Band camp on TUESDAY.  If you have these from previous years, you do NOT need to buy new ones.  Scholarships available for all items & a few pairs of shoes in random sizes/condition will be available for free through the Uniform Exchange*.  Please send cash (exact change), or a check made out to BHS Music Boosters, or pre-purchase the items online in our store at  https://bothellmusicboosters.cheddarup.com.

* (If your student has outgrown marching band shoes, please consider donating them to the Uniform Exchange!)

 

We're not sure what the directions will be yet regarding masks during camp.  Please have your student bring a mask to camp in case.

 

Everyone will get issued a MB uniform.  Students will be measured for uniforms during camp to be issued after school starts.
